24 Hour Play-in

24 Hour Play-in

Get ready everybody because our first major fundraising event in preparation for our upcoming tour to North America is happening soon. We will be having a  24 hour Play-in / Ceilidh starting on Friday 3rd June and ending on Saturday 4th June in Troon Old Parish Church in Troon. We will start at 7pm on Friday with a one hour free concert performance from the whole orchestra. This will follow at 8pm with a ceilidh until 11pm (tickets will be available for this!). The music will continue with night shift from our senior players. The following morning we will then have groups playing throughout the day. The 24 hour play-in will finish with another performance from 6pm to 7pm with the whole orchestra. Come along and make sure we keep playing and moral support for the whole 24 hours. It has been a number of years since we last undertook an event like this – it is a huge lot of fun and a great way to get our fundraising underway. You can donate to this event by visiting our JustGiving Page You can also check out our twitter page for live updates during the 24 hour play-in. Dunlop Church Concert

Dunlop Church Concert

The Ayrshire Fiddle Orchestra were honoured on Friday 13th May to be asked to play for the first time in Dunlop church. To add to the enjoyment of the evening the Gill family very kindly offered to host a BBQ for all the players before the concert. We were fortunate to have excellent weather and the Gill’s were fabulous hosts. The concert was a huge success, everyone was extremely complimentary to us, for both our playing and behaviour on the night. I was asked by a member of the audience on how I enjoyed Hout Bay after hearing David speak about it during the concert. She took a lot of interest in what I told her and how it was a life changing experience. One of the highlights of the evening was Miriam’s highland fling. The merchandise stall did a roaring trade selling out on tea towels ! All in all a most enjoyable evening of food, music, dance and fun. Ella.... read more
AFO in Arran

AFO in Arran

Our annual trip to Scotland’s Holiday Isle was last weekend. We left Ayr at 11am for the 12.30pm ferry from Ardrossan to Brodick, give our Concert in Whiting bay Hall with our guests The Arran Fiddle Club, and then stay overnight in the superb Arran Outdoor Education Centre in Lamlash. This trip is always a great opportunity, especially for our younger players, to get to know other members of the Orchestra and the way the group works on Tour and on some of the various trips that the orchestra takes. As always our Saturday Concert was in Whiting Bay Hall. This year we reverted to the original Sunday morning pattern – established 31 years ago! – of taking part in the Morning Service at Whiting Bay Church with a small group providing the musical input. After lunch in the Church Hall we traveled to Auchrannie Resort Games Hall for some energetic activities including swimming before getting the ferry home.... read more
